More than a decade after The Office closed its doors, the creative team behind the hit comedy is back with a new workplace mockumentary.
The Paper, debuting on Peacock, follows the same documentary crew that once filmed Dunder Mifflin as they turn their cameras on a struggling Midwestern newspaper, the Toledo Truth-Teller. Domhnall Gleeson stars as Ned Sampson, the paper’s well-meaning but disastrous editor, while Office veteran Oscar Nuñez reprises his role as accountant Oscar Martinez. New additions include White Lotus alum Sabrina Impacciatore as Esmeralda, the scheming managing editor plotting against Ned.
The show comes from Office co-creator Greg Daniels and comedy writer Michael Koman, with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant on board as executive producers. The creators say The Paper aims to capture the tone and humor of The Office while standing on its own, given the higher stakes tied to the survival of a local newspaper.
With familiar DNA, a new cast of eccentric co-workers, and plenty of Easter eggs to enjoy, The Paper might rekindle the fire of one of TV’s most beloved franchises.
