Cracker Barrel Chaos

Cracker Barrel is finding out that in 2025, a logo can move marketsThe Southern-style chain scrapped its new minimalist branding this week after customer backlash sent the company back to its familiar logo featuring “Old Timer” and the barrel.

The decision lit up the internet:Google searches for “Cracker Barrel” hit an all-time high, and Citi analyst Jon Tower noted that the “late August hubbub” could drive short-term curiosity and foot traffic. Cracker Barrel stock jumped as much as 8% on Wednesday.

But beneath the buzz, Cracker Barrel’s challenges remain. The company is in the middle of a $700 million three-year transformation, aimed at modernizing its restaurants and menu. So far, results have lagged competitors. CEO Julie Felss Masino, who took the helm in 2023, has cautioned that the turnaround won’t be “a straight line.”

Still, the chain’s latest moment in the spotlight shows one thing: even in a crowded casual dining landscape, Cracker Barrel can still get people chatting (for better or worse).
